Creating and Managing Device Profiles in PMC

Creating and Managing Device Profiles in PMC

Introduction

This article explains how to create, manage, import, and export device configuration profiles within the PMC Endpoint Manager (v4.1.1 and later). With this update, all profile-related tasks are now handled directly from within device groups, streamlining zero-touch onboarding and ongoing configuration management.

Managing Device Profiles in PMC

New Workflow in PMC 4.1.1

Note: Dedicated Device Profiles page has been removed
Profile creation and management now happens entirely within the Device Groups > Device Profiles panel.

      Creating a Device Profile

Navigate to the target Device Group where the profile will apply.
Note: PMC organizes your deployment in a hierarchical structure. The default level, and each sub-level in the hierarchical tree have a dedicated section for Device Profiles that corresponds to the level you have selected. Furthermore, depending on where you create the device profile, whatever predefined settings you save in it, that profile will affect all the units under the specific level in the hierarchy you selected.

      1. Go to the Devices panel.

      2. Look for the DEVICE PROFILES section. (For this example, we are using the default level in the hierarchy)
      3. Click Create Profile.

      4. Configure the desired settings.
      5. Save the profile (it will be disabled by default).

      6. This allows edits without affecting devices until manually enabled. To edit your profile, hover your mouse cursor towards the end of the line of your profile, and you will see some icons popping up. Click on the settings icon, and you will be able to do your desired configurations.

      Profile Activation

      1. To apply a profile to devices, enable it after configuration is finalized.

      Profile Upgrade Behavior

      1. PMC 4.1.1 prevents the creation of multiple unassigned profiles for the same device family/model.
      2. Upon upgrade, unassigned profiles from earlier versions are converted to files (available under Administration > Files).

      Importing & Exporting Device Profiles

      Importing a Profile

      1. Navigate to the Device Profiles panel in your target group.
      2. Click Import configuration and select the appropriate profile file.

      Exporting a Profile

      1. Select the desired profile. Click Export configuration to save the profile within PMC. You will find it in the Administration tab > Files.
      2. You can also click Export to save it as a file to your computer for later reuse.

      Conclusion

PMC 4.1.1 simplifies profile management by embedding it directly within device group structures. This centralized approach improves usability and ensures consistent device configurations during deployment and lifecycle management.
