Tips: How to Enhance Video Performance on vSpace Products.
vSpace, our virtual desktop platform, has an architecture that is designed for a rich performance and delivery of desktops on its lineup of thin clients. One of the features that our platform offers is the delivery of high resolution video. For this operation, virtual drivers within vSpace architecture are used and a rich video experience is delivered to our thin clients through our NUMO technology.
The Numo family of SOCs are single chip devices that provide virtual desktop capabilities in an NComputing vSpace environment. Numo SOCs include an advanced architecture, based on dual core ARM processors, with an H.264 video decoder. NUMO allows for the device to connect to the host computer via a standard TCP/IP network using the NComputing UXP protocol and displays the user desktop session and ensures excellent video and graphics performance while optimizing for both host-side scalability and low bandwidth utilization.
Having this on context, here are some tips of what you can do to ensure the best video delivery on your NComputing environment:
1. Ensure enough server hardware resources. You can check out
this guide to ensure that you have enough processing power, RAM and HDD hardware in relation to the projected amount of terminals connecting to this server. Video performance cannot be enhanced using a video card. However, the only benefit of having a powerful graphics card, if any, is the added RAM in it, since it will help the processor with its load. Also, some applications have shown better performance if the card supports DirectX 11 or higher.
2. Improve your network performance. A fluid and well resourced network will be important. A Gigabit network with CAT 6 wiring will be perfect since good bandwidth and minimal latency are essential for our UXP protocol.
3. Configure protocols for network, antivirus, firewall and other security settings. You can see our KB article about it here.
4. Use vCast, our Premium Feature video enhancer. vCast is best seen on RX-300 terminals for the transmission of YouTube videos over Google Chrome. This Premium Feature, allows video from source to be directly transmitted to the terminal without having the processor involved at all. This enhances the experience of the video and allows the processor to be free for other tasks or more user density. You can learn about vCast
here. Also you can purchase a vCast license by login in to the Management Portal and
go to "Purchase Licenses". See this article for more help.
