Configure multiple instances of local Chromium browser in LEAFOS and RX420(RDP)

Multiple instances of local Chromium browser (e.g. different pre-defined URLs, customized Chromium browser policy, etc.) can be created using local application with ‘system extension’ support. Supported devices include LEAFOS and RX420(RDP) devices (firmware version 3.7.3 or higher).

Below is an example of using local application with ‘system extension’ to create multiple instances of local Chromium browser.

To configure multiple Chromium instances, you can leverage the launcher script (rx-chromium-browser), which is present in LEAFOS and RX420(RDP) (firmware version 3.7.3 or higher). The parameters of custom application can be:

Display name: Chromium - NComputing & Microsoft

Icon path: /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/chromium-browser.png

Command path: rx-chromium-browser

Command parameters: --new-window;ncomputing.com;microsoft.com

Show on the list: Selected

Other instance:

Display name: E-Mail

Icon path: /usr/share/icons/gnome/48x48/emblems/emblem-mail.png

Command path: rx-chromium-browser

Command parameters: --new-window;--incognito;gmail.com

Show on the list: Selected

Tips:

  1. To have all the instances launched in separate windows, it is important to add the '--new-window' command parameter.
  2. The 'rx-chromium-browser' launcher respects the settings configured under 'Local Applications > Chromium Browser' (e.g. the window size and placement, incognito mode, bookmarks, etc.)
  3. Please refer to this KB article on how to customized local Chromium browser policy setting
With the above examples, the user will get following local applications list (when the regular Chromium browser will be enabled too):
