When setting up a Microsoft Windows, Server Operating System, you will see the requirement of configuring an activate a Licensing Server within a 120-day grace period. Typically, this will be announced to you during this lapse of time through a warning in the System Tray. 

A new Microsoft Update now requires that User CALS are installed for Server 2012 and Server 2016.
