Add a printer to an N500 that is not in the printer list

How would the customer like the N500 client to communicate with the printer: via USB cable or via network?

The answer is important, as the interpretation of the ‘Model’ information depends on it:

For USB connected printers the ‘Model’ information must be exactly the string which appears after right-clicking the printer list (the white box to the right of the model selection dialog) when the printer is connected via USB. The firmware uses this string to find the right printer when many USB printers are connected. The ‘Model’ information will be also passed to the Citrix server as the name of requested Windows printer driver. If the string identifying the USB printer exactly matches the name of Windows printer driver on the server side then the Citrix server will  auto-create the printer using this Windows printer driver. If the string identifying the USB printer does not exactly match the name of Windows printer then the printer driver mapping must be set up via Citrix Policy. Without such mapping the Citrix server will be unable to load the necessary native driver for this specific printer model and will auto-create the printer using the UPD (Citrix Universal Printer Driver), which is unsupported on N-series devices.

For network connected (JetDirect) printers the ‘Model’ information should be the name of the required Windows printer driver. It does not need to match the string which appears after right-clicking the printer list when the same printer is connected via USB. The ‘Model’ information will be passed to the Citrix server as the name of the required Windows printer driver and, since the Administrator can specify any string as printer ‘Model’, the Citrix server will auto-create the printer using the Windows driver specified on the client as printer ‘Model’.

For both scenarios to work properly, the necessary native Windows printer driver must be pre-installed on all Citrix Servers (including VDI machines running Desktop OSes) to which the N-series client will possibly connect.
