VERDE VDI version 8.3 or newer no longer supports Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 as guest desktop operating systems.
Current and supported VERDE releases are designed and validated exclusively for modern, Microsoft-supported operating systems, specifically Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Microsoft has formally ended extended support for the following operating systems:
Windows 7 – End of Extended Support: January 14, 2020
Windows 8.1 – End of Extended Support: January 10, 2023
As a result, these operating systems no longer receive security updates, stability fixes, or compatibility guarantees from Microsoft.
In alignment with Microsoft’s lifecycle policies and to ensure security, stability, and long-term maintainability, NComputing has discontinued support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 in VERDE VDI.
According to the official VERDE VDI Compatibility Matrix, supported Windows desktop operating systems are limited to:
Windows 10 (64-bit)
Windows 11 (64-bit)
No current VERDE release supports Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 as guest desktops.
Some customers may be aware that older VERDE releases (VERDE 8.2 and earlier) were capable of running Windows 7 guest desktops.
Please note the following:
VERDE 8.2 and earlier versions are no longer supported by NComputing. If you are still using an old perpetual license, we recommend that you remain in the older VERDE VDI system. (version 8.2 or earlier, and under the reminder that it no longer receives support from NComputing) However, we strongly advise you to upgrade your license to use VERDE 8.3.4 or a newer version.
These versions do not receive updates, fixes, or security patches.
Running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 on these legacy VERDE versions is entirely unsupported and not recommended for production environments.
NComputing Support cannot provide troubleshooting, fixes, or compatibility assistance for Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 on any VERDE version.
If your environment currently relies on Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 desktops:
You must remain on an unsupported, legacy VERDE release, or
Migrate to a supported VERDE version and upgrade guest operating systems to Windows 10 or Windows 11
For security, compliance, and long-term operability, upgrading the guest OS is strongly recommended.
Q: Can I still install Windows 7 on the latest VERDE version?
A: No. Windows 7 is not supported, tested, or validated on current VERDE releases.
Q: Will NComputing provide an exception for Windows 7 or 8.1?
A: No. Support status aligns with Microsoft’s lifecycle policy and cannot be extended.
Q: Is this a new policy change?
A: This reflects an alignment with Microsoft’s already-ended support lifecycle and is documented in the current VERDE compatibility matrix.
