vSpace Pro: Windows error message when installing. "Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software".

Our current installers of vSpace Pro provide a SHA 2 certificate to satisfy the install requirements of modern Windows operating systems like Windows Server 2016, 2019 and Windows 10.

However, when installing vSpace Pro on an older operating system like Windows 7, or 2008 R2, you may come across this warning.

The warning may be triggered because of older operating systems, by default operate with SHA-1 certs, but not SHA-2.
Another factor is that a s of January 2020, SHA1 signing certificates will finish their shelf life and will no longer be valid.

Starting in vSpace Pro 11.3.7 LTS and higher version, following the industry trend, NComputing has migrated to only use SHA2 security certificates in vSpace Pro. If you use Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 and do not have SHA2 security certificate patch applied to the OS, you will not be able to install vSpace Pro 11.3.7 LTS and will receive the following warning message during installation:

Below please find Microsoft's recommendation to apply corresponding patches in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 to support SHA2 security certificates:

Below, are the details from Microsoft regarding this matter:

Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

Windows Server 2008 SP2

The following updates must be installed and then the device restarted before installing any Rollup released September 10, 2019 or later. The required updates can be installed in any order and do not need to be reinstalled, unless there is a new version of the required update.

·        Servicing stack update (SSU) (KB4493730). If you use Windows Update, the required SSU update will be offered to you automatically.

·        The latest SHA-2 update (KB4474419) released September 10, 2019. If you use Windows Update, the required SHA-2 update will be offered to you automatically.

In view of the above, and in order to mitigate this issue, there are 2 recommendations:

1. Users with Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows Server 2008 SP2 installations will need a few Microsoft KBs to enable the use of SHA-2 certs:

https://support.microsoft.com/help/4474419 SLN319834_en_US__1iC_External_Link_BD_v1

https://support.microsoft.com/help/4490628 SLN319834_en_US__1iC_External_Link_BD_v1

2. If the application of the above KB updates is not feasible, another workaround will be to ignore the warning and proceed with the installation of vSpace.
