RX-HDX- HDMI to VGA adapter

Can I use an HDMI to VGA adapter with the RX-HDX?  Yes

You can use commercially available adapters for HDMI to VGA, but they must be "active" adapters.

As HDMI is digital, and VGA is analog, the adapter must have passive switching capability.

The adapter description should have something similar to:

HDMI Male to VGA Male D-SUB 15 Pin M/M Video Converter Cable Adapter Support Full 1080P Convert Signal from HDMI Input Laptop HDTV to VGA Output Monitors

Please Note: HDMI-VGA adapters usually do not pass the EDID data and RX-HDX is unable to automatically configure display resolution. You need to force the video output to run with the desired (monitor’s native) resolution.

Please do the following:
• Under ‘Display/Monitor’ settings select the desired screen resolution instead of ‘Auto’.
• Select the 60Hz refresh rate (instead of ‘Optimal’).
• Under ‘Services/Raspberry Pi/config.txt/config.txt' add an entry and set it to ‘hdmi_force_hotplug=1’. With it, the RX-HDX device will always behave as if a monitor would be detected (even when obtaining the EDID data through DDC failed).
• Reboot the device. It should work with the configured resolution than through the HDM-VGA adapter.
