Repurposing a Dell Thin Client with LEAF OS

Repurposing a Dell Thin Client with LEAF OS

Overview

After installing LEAF OS on a Dell thin client, you must add a new BIOS boot option that points to the LEAF OS shim file. Once this boot entry is created and moved to the top of the boot order, the Dell Wyse thin client will boot from the internal eMMC.

Steps

  1. Install LEAF OS on the Dell Wyse thin client.
  2. Restart the device and enter the BIOS setup.
  3. Go to General > Boot Sequence.
  4. Click Add Boot Option.
  5. Enter LEAFOS as the new boot option name.
  6. Click the small file-selection box to the right of the File Name field.
  7. In the file browser, open EFI\BOOT and select BOOTx64.EFI.
  8. Click OK to save the new boot option.
  9. Move the new LEAFOS boot option to the top of the boot order.
  10. Click Apply to save the configuration.
  11. Reboot the device. The Dell Wyse thin client should now boot into LEAF OS from the internal eMMC.

Add a new boot option named LEAFOS and browse to the EFI boot file.

In EFI\BOOT, select BOOTx64.EFI as the LEAF OS shim file.

After creating the entry, move LEAFOS to the top of the boot order.

Apply the BIOS changes to complete the configuration.

Notes

If the device does not boot into LEAF OS after rebooting, re-enter the BIOS and verify that the LEAFOS boot option is present and set as the first boot entry.
