In Support of VERDE's Remote Access: Wake-on-LAN (WoL) Target PC's Configuration

Product Line:  VERDE

By default, a workstation/PC that has RDP enabled works with VERDE's Remote Access (RA).  But, if the target workstation is asleep, powered-off or in hibernation, RA will not be able to connect.  The following directions will help you configure your target workstation to support "Wake-on-LAN (WoL).

WoL Definition:  The Wake-on-LAN (WOL) feature wakes a computer from a low-power/powered-off state when a network adapter detects a WOL event. Typically, such an event is a specially constructed Ethernet packet.

Configure your physical PC to respond to Wake-on-LAN (WoL).

To enable WoL functionality for a PC the BIOS settings and Windows OS must be modified as follows:

Note: Many PCs are preconfigured to enable WoL.

BIOS Settings

1.     To enter the BIOS, you’ll need to press a key as you boot your computer—usually Delete, Escape, F2, F12 (your boot screen will give you instructions on what key to press to enter setup).

Examples:

1.       Go to Advanced option:

1.       Then look for APM option (or may be Advance Power Management, this option may have different names as BIOS settings vary from brand to brand.)

1.       Enable Power on by PCI-E option:

Save the setting and exit BIOS setup.  Bring up the Windows OS.

***NOTE*** The Home Edition of Windows does not allow RDP to be enabled.  RA will not work with the Home Edition.
