HOW TO: Remove the vSpace NCtray icon from the Windows System Tray

Summary:

The NCtray icon provides easy access to the vSpace Server Console and other tools, such as the registration wizard. In some situations, administrators may wish to disable this icon to restrict access to one or more of these features. One example would be in a classroom environment, where the NC Text feature might be misused by students. Below are steps for disabling this feature.

Note: While disabling the NCtray icon does not adversely affect client sessions, it can have a negative impact on clipboard syncing between vSpace Client and the server. Administrators with vSpace Client sessions connected to their server should consider this before proceeding.

Steps:
  1. Click 'Run' from the Window start Menu (On some versions of Windows you will need to type run in the search box located in the start menu) and type 'MSConfig'.
  2. Once MSConfig launches navigate to the 'Startup' tab and uncheck the "vSpace Server" item (see Figure 1, below). (This isn’t “vSpace” itself. It is only the NCtray application that is launched at user login.)
  3. Click the “Apply” button and NCtray will no longer be loaded when users login.
Note: It will take a reboot for the settings to take effect
Note: MSConfig retains the NCtray checkbox in case you want to re-enable it at a later date.
