How to Preserve vSpace Console Settings When Reinstalling

How to Preserve vSpace Console Settings When Reinstalling

Overview

If you need to reinstall vSpace Pro Server Software and want to retain all of your existing configurations this article explains which files to back up and how to restore them after a clean installation.

Before proceeding: Always create a full backup of your system before making changes. NComputing strongly recommends having a backup strategy in place prior to reinstallation.

Why Your Settings Can Be Preserved

vSpace Console stores its configuration in specific database and settings files rather than in the Windows registry. This means that as long as those files are safely backed up and restored, your environment can be recovered without starting from scratch.

Files to Back Up

1. vSpace Console Database

This is the primary configuration database, managed by the NComputing vSpace Console Server service. It stores device registrations, console settings, and environment configuration.

File location:

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\NcConsole.db

2. Performance Profiles (vSpace Pro Server)

This file contains customer-defined Performance Profiles for vSpace Pro Server.

File location:

C:\Program Files\NComputing\vSpace Server Software\vsconfig.col

Backup & Restore Procedure

Step 1 — Back Up Before Uninstalling

  1. Stop the NComputing vSpace Console Server service to ensure the database is not in use.

  2. Copy the mentioned files to a safe location (external drive, network share, or cloud storage):

    • C:\Windows\SysWOW64\NcConsole.db

    • C:\Program Files\NComputing\vSpace Server Software\vsconfig.col

Step 2 — Perform the Reinstallation

Proceed with your vSpace Pro reinstallation. For a clean reinstall, follow the official vSpace Pro Software Clean Re-Install Procedure.

Step 3 — Restore Your Configuration Files

Once the installation is complete and before launching vSpace Console for the first time:

  1. Stop the NComputing vSpace Console Server service.

  2. Replace the newly created NcConsole.db with your backed-up copy.

  3. Replace the vsconfig.col file with your backed-up copy.

  4. Restart the NComputing vSpace Console Server service.

  5. Open vSpace Console and verify that your devices and settings are intact.

Additional Notes

This information is provided to you in the best effort to assist you on preserving configuration of your current vSpace Software setup. We make no warranties, or assume any liability, of any kind, on the preservation of such configurations.
Keep in mind that most of the configurations are already retained at the vSpace connected devices. You can always discover them using the vSpace Console, and save their profiles for later use or pushing such profile to the rest of the units in the future.

If you have any questions about this, you can always contact NComputing tech-support.
